Dear friend,
Denying medical care is a violation of the fundamental human rights to life, liberty, and equality under the law, and the impact of the overturning of Roe v. Wade in the U.S. has been catastrophic—paving the way for a regime of forced birth and parenthood.
That's what I testified, along with other human rights organizations last week at the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.
With the fall of Roe v. Wade, the U.S. is one of only four countries that have removed legal grounds for abortion. This backwards move puts the U.S. squarely out of step with the overwhelming global trend towards the liberalization of abortion laws. The Center will not stop fighting to change the course of human rights in the United States, and right now any gift you make that supports our fight will be matched 3X. Are you with us?
The Commission, a regional human rights body that monitors human rights in the Americas, has noted its deep concern about the risks that abortion bans and restrictions pose to people’s health and lives. This hearing was an opportunity for our team, as leaders in the fight for global access to abortion, to address a worsening human rights situation and to remind the U.S. of its human rights obligations.
Friend, abortion is essential health care critical to social and economic equality, reproductive autonomy, and the right to determine one’s own path in life. Our team will need you with us as we continue to fight for these essential human rights around the world. Support this essential work today and your gift will be matched THREE times up to our $100,000 goal for Giving Tuesday.
In solidarity,
Astrid Ackerman
Staff Attorney
P.S. Thanks to a generous group of Center supporters, all gifts made by midnight on Giving Tuesday—November 28—will be matched 3X up to $100,000. November 28 also marks an important date for the Center, the day our team will be presenting oral arguments in our case against the state of Texas's abortion bans. Will you make your 3X Giving Tuesday gift right now so we can focus on that important case?
