Jack, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow appeared on the Late Show minutes after it was announced that the House Democrats helped pass a government funding bill. The first step in avoiding a government shutdown.

In response to this breaking news, she drew a very distinctive line between the two parties: Democrats “are still treating this like it is a governing project" meanwhile, the GOP is "still not even wanting to keep the government going because they don’t believe that governance is what we need in this country."

When Stephen Colbert asked her how we get out of this mess, Maddow made some very strong points: “The big picture answer is if you are trying to defend democracy, you only have one arrow in your quiver, you only have one weapon and that is democracy. You cannot fight an anti-democratic movement with anti-democratic means.”

Our only option to help protect our democracy is to help Democrats retake control of the House, protect our majority in the Senate and hold on to the White House in the 2024 election. It's clear that we need to increase our efforts to educate, register, and mobilize Democratic voters over the next year. We will need to work just as hard to turn out Democratic votes in 2024 as we did in 2020, when we signed up over 100,000 Get Out the Vote volunteers.
