NAL’s alumni and elected officials are delivering on their promises to advocate for immigrant communities. We kicked off the year with NALpista and Michigan State Senator Darrin Camilleri leading a successful effort to repeal anti-worker
right to work legislation in Michigan. Alumna Vanessa García Polanco was recognized for her food justice advocacy, making the list of climate leaders on the 2023 Grist 50 Fixers. Most recently, the New York City Council—a body composed of 20% New American Leaders alumni and past New American Leaders Action Fund endorsees—passed landmark legislation establishing a workers' bill of rights. This bill was originally introduced by NAL alumna and New York City Councilmember Shahana Hanif .
