John,

Yesterday marked exactly five years since I found out I won my first
election to Congress. Notably, yesterday was not five years since the 2018
midterms! It was a very close race, and it took over a week for all of the
votes to be counted.

I couldn’t have imagined then all that was in store for the next five
years. A pandemic, two impeachments, the longest government shutdown on
record, an insurrection, global conflict, and a House without a Speaker.
Not to mention two more competitive re-election campaigns!

But amidst the chaos, I’ve been proud to also make good on the promises I
campaigned on in 2018. My legislation to finally raise rates on polluters
who drill on public lands for the first time in a century was signed into
law. My bill to crack down on pharmaceutical companies when they price
gouge is now in effect. And importantly, my questioning of a Trump
Administration official in the early days of the pandemic secured free
COVID testing for every American.

Then there’s the long (very long) list of legislation I’ve worked on, and
will continue pushing until it gets signed into law; banning Members of
Congress from trading stocks, capping childcare costs at 7% of a family’s
income, and preventing oil companies from price gouging at the gas pump,
to name a few.

If the past five years have taught me anything, it’s that even amidst the
chaos, noise, and tough campaigns, who we elect matters. The priorities
and life experiences of our politicians matter. And that’s exactly why I’m
running for the U.S. Senate.

Thanks to all of you who have been a part of our movement. Whether you’ve
been a supporter since 2018 or joined us more recently, THANK YOU for your
support. As my former law professor Elizabeth Warren taught me, nobody
gets elected alone.

Onward to another five years of progress!

Katie
