In just a few hours, the Departments of Law Enforcement and Public Safety collected nearly 500 guns in exchange for Foodland gift cards, with no questions asked and no ID required.

Earlier this year, Josh signed two new gun safety laws, designating sensitive places where firearms will be prohibited statewide, and providing active shooter training in public and charter schools.

This fall Governor Green also announced the Healthcare Education Loan Repayment Program to attract and retain healthcare providers who work on the most critical areas of need in Hawaii, including mental health and addiction treatment professionals.

By providing mental health and addiction services where they are most needed, this program will also help reduce the potential risk of gun violence in communities across our state.

Direct action such as gun buyback events, new gun safety laws, and more mental health services are making our communities safer, getting guns off our streets, and protecting our keiki from deadly violence.
