We have new updates on the proposed Charter Amendment, and we need you to keep calling, emailing, and tweeting your Supervisors!

On Tuesday November 7, 2023, Supervisor Ahsha Safaí (District 11), introduced changes to the proposed charter amendment  that would politicize the SFMTA’s budget when it comes to increasing transit fares or parking fees.

On Tuesday November 14, 2023, the Board of Supervisors voted 6-5 to approve the amended version of the Charter Amendment.

On Monday November 20, at 9 am, this amendment will have its final hearing at a Board of Supervisors special session. We especially need residents in Districts 1, 3, 5, 9, 10, and 11 to call, email, and tweet your Supervisors to remind them that this amendment would threaten SFMTA funding, and why riders like you are against it.

Find your Supervisor's phone number here, or send a message using the guided prompts we've provided at the link below.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out to us at [email protected].

"Surmounting the Fiscal Cliff"

Many transit agencies are facing a fiscal cliff due to the end of federal pandemic aid and ridership that has failed to fully return to pre-pandemic levels. For many agencies, this cliff is only the latest example of decades of unstable, varying funding levels that threaten their ability to provide reliable, effective, desirable service.

This new analysis from Urban Institute experts explores why transit agencies continuously face these unsteady conditions and identifies what options policymakers at the federal, state, and local levels could pursue to ensure agencies achieve financial stability and meet the needs of a growing population.
