On this day dedicated to spreading awareness of the violence and pain caused by intolerance around the world, it’s not lost on me that these themes are at the forefront of your minds.

These past years, and even in the current news headlines, we’ve seen the devastatingly violent ramifications of intolerance.

From the rallies of hate groups emboldened by our last President to the horrifying war crimes being committed overseas, there is simply no place for intolerance of others in a world already so full of pain.

In a county as vast and diverse as San Diego, there’s no shortage of people from a multitude of backgrounds in our own Community.

It’s on all of us to embrace that diversity, and recommit ourselves to tolerance and understanding of others.
