The Fifth National Climate Assessment, released by the Biden administration this week, raises a number of alarming trends:

• Climate change is harming human health as droughts become more severe and air quality is degraded by wildfire smoke and smog – and its impacts are disproportionately affecting historically marginalized communities, including people of color, Indigenous Peoples, and low-income communities.


• Crucial ecosystems on land and under the sea are transforming as a result of extreme weather, pushing endangered species to the brink and threatening important fisheries and other sources of economically important and traditional food sources.
