We’re so excited for you to join us virtually for our 2023 Annual Gala today! This year’s theme is We Weave Our Own Story, a tribute to the ways in which we all build networks of support for our communities. Check out the program here.
The event begins at 3:30 PM ET with a panel moderated by Greg Robinson called Keeping the Promise: The Settings Rule and securing an end to institutions. This panel will talk about what this the HCBS Settings Rule means for the autistic and wider disability community, the advocacy that went into fighting for the Rule, and the continued work to secure what is promised by the Rule. Register for this panel here!
We will continue at 5:30 PM ET with our next panel focusing on building community at the intersections of transness and disability and how trans autistic joy is a form of resistance. How to avoid unraveling: Building trans autistic community care will be moderated by Alex Grandstaff. Sign up for this panel here!
This evening culminates with our Gala Awards Ceremony at 7:30 PM ET – we will be honoring several awardees for their tireless work in advocacy, research, community building, and so much more. We’ll also hear remarks by our outgoing Executive Director Julia Bascom, incoming Interim Executive Director Avery Outlaw, and ASAN staff members! Watch the livestream on Youtube tonight!
Gala tickets are on a sliding scale this year, so you can pay whatever you are comfortable with. Proceeds from this event every year support our advocacy work and programs for the coming year, and allow us to continue working to empower disabled people across the country. If you are not able to donate, we’re just happy to have you celebrating with us! But if you are able, please consider donating to support our work.
Will you join us tonight? You are invited to join any of the events, or all of them! You can register here and be entered into our raffle – prizes include 2 free year-long ASAN memberships and 25 copies of Alice Wong’s book Year of the Tiger: An Activist’s Life. We will contact the winners after the awards ceremony, so be sure to keep an eye out for an email from us! Make sure to register for each panel in order to receive the panel link. We can’t wait to see you tonight!
