Jack, in 2022, Americans voted in record numbers, staving off the pundit-predicted "red wave." This year, we did the same in local and statewide elections, protecting abortion access for millions.
With the 2024 election looming and right-wing attacks against our freedoms unrelenting, curbing impediments to voting—like actually getting registered—is critical to ensuring we can protect our communities at the ballot box.

When applying for a driver's license or official ID, most eligible voters have already provided their states with all the necessary information to vote, including their name, date of birth, and residence. Twenty-four states and the District of Columbia use this information to offer "Automatic Voter Registration" (AVR). But there is no automated system in the other 26 states.
In states without AVR, voters must actively seek the opportunity to register. This task can be disenfranchising for disabled and overworked Americans, leading many to delay or forget until the voter finds that they are ineligible to submit a ballot.
Automatic voter registration isn't merely a convenience; it's a proven tool for strengthening our democracy by increasing participation. Simplifying the process of voter registration improves civic engagement. And with extremists threatening the very foundation of our democracy, we must ensure that everyday people can be heard.
