Explore the wish journey: How we discover a child’s wish

How does a wish become a wish? It all starts with a part of the journey that we call wish discovery.



Step 1: Connecting with a wish team
A wish team is specifically matched with a wish kid – like 10-year-old Aven – to help them navigate this life-changing experience from start to finish.



Step 2: Discovering a wish
Aven meets with his wish team, giving them a chance to learn more about him, his favorite things and what his heartfelt wish might be. These wish discovery meetings are designed to open a child’s imagination – they might do anything from answering questions about their favorite activities to creating a vision board to drawing pictures of their wish ideas.



Step 3: Creating a wish
Every child’s wish is as unique as they are, and the reason a child chooses their wish is just as important as the wish itself. Now - thanks to essential support from donors like you - the team gets to work bringing the child’s imagination to life through their wish.



As Aven faced two big upcoming surgeries due to a digestive disorder, he knew he’d have to spend his summer vacation at home, away from his friends and the outside world. He didn’t want to be alone during this difficult time, so he wished for a golden retriever puppy to keep him company. He named her Hope.



Without the generosity of supporters like you, life-changing wishes like Aven’s wouldn’t be possible. But there are too many kids waiting to start their wish journeys as they face the scary realities of a critical illness.
