Letter from the Mayor
Hello Service Ambassadors,
Happy November!
Serve DC is always active, and out in the community!
We are the Mayor's Office on Volunteerism & Partnerships, and we pride ourselves on connecting people through purpose. Highlighted below are some events we have participated in over the past few months.
During the month of October, we held our Spirit of Service Awards at Gateway Pavillion! We hosted 23 government agencies and non-profits who brought resources they offer our communities. Through our partnership with local organizations and government agencies, we created safe spaces for wellness where attendees participated in family fun activities.
We also honored our AmeriCorps network at our All-Corps Convening held at Kenilworth Recreation Center. Michael Smith, who is the CEO of AmeriCorps led the day with a call to action for all AmeriCorps members to continue to serve in our communities.
Serve DC hosted a panel discussion, during DC Start Up week, titled: "The Business of Doing Good: Creating Impact Through Social Enterprising and Innovation". Our Moderator was Randy Louis, President & CEO of the Block Shoppers. Panelists include Ms. Cherrelle Swain - Founder Terra Rose, Brian Atkins - Vice President Community Manager at JP Morgan Chase, Musa Kamara - Huda Strategies, and Marcus Carr - Founder of Ashoka.
In partnership with the Department of For-Hire Vehicles & The Mayor's Office on Night Life & Culture, Serve DC - Mayor's Office on Volunteerism and Partnerships supported Mayor Bowser’s initiative for a Safer & Stronger city by providing District residents in delivery service capacities such as Door Dash, Lyft, and Uber with Dash Cameras!
In honor of National Homeless Youth Awareness Month (NHYAM) this November, Serve DC was invited to partner with The Mayor's Office on Women's Policy & Initiatives to distribute hygiene kits to all 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. They also received a self-defense hand on training.
We kicked off our first 2023 CERT Fall Cohort on November 8th, 2023! We have successfully graduated 149 residents who are trained to act as an Emergency Responder until help arrives. First Aid - CPR, Fire Suppression and more, are taught in each cohort.
In partnership and collaboration,
Jermaine Dillon

On behalf of Mayor Muriel Bowser, we would like to thank all of our winners for the 2023 Spirit of Service Awards!
This year was, by far, the most successful year to date! We are so grateful for the extraordinary work and service that you do in our communities!
The youth, and their families, were able to enjoy a celebratory event, while we recognized our winners for their achievements.
A huge thank you to our partners at Wegmans, Department of Behavioral Health, and Fire & EMS who, year after year, continue to invest and support our community events and services.

Our Annual All Corps Convening brought together the best of our AmeriCorps ecosystem and showcased the importance of their role as the backbone of service in the District.
Joined by Michael Smith, all well as AmeriCorps Alumni across the District, the day was impactful, and our attendees left with a call to action for continued service and impact in our community.
We are proud to serve you and proud to stand with you, DC AmeriCorps!
