Thanks to your past support, earlier this year we secured a 20-year mining ban on federal lands in the Boundary Waters watershed. But state and private lands in the same sensitive areas remain vulnerable.
Two weeks ago, the Department of Natural Resources ignored warnings and approved exploratory drilling next to Birch Lake by Twin Metals. And just this week, Birch Lake was added to the state’s draft impaired waters list - meaning it has levels of pollution that haven’t been addressed.
We need a permanent ban on toxic mining within the watershed of Boundary Waters before irreparable damage is done.
How? We persistently advocate for legislation at the state and federal level to safeguard the Boundary Waters. Additionally, we are preparing to have our big day in court for our first-of-its-kind lawsuit seeking to amend Minnesota’s outdated mine siting rules that don’t protect the Wilderness. But we need your help.
Before midnight tonight, make a gift to fund our expert legal, scientific, and policy work that MUST prevail in order to truly protect this precious Wilderness, plus, your gift will be automatically doubled when you give today. |
