John,

Taking action on climate change is a two-part undertaking. We need to
stop releasing so many harmful emissions. And we need to draw down the
greenhouse gases already in the atmosphere. By conserving green
spaces, we maximize nature's spongelike superpowers.

Land Protection Is Climate Protection

[link removed]

From Huntington, Vermont, to Mount Taylor in New Mexico, Trust for
Public Land is working to protect land from development and, in the
process, fight climate change. Land conservation not only counters
extreme heat, flooding, and wildfire risk; it locks up carbon dioxide,
the primary greenhouse gas fueling climate change.

The Largest Land Return of Its Kind

TPL is working to restore nearly 30,000 acres to the Penobscot
Nation-an endeavor that represents the largest land return
effort between a U.S.-based nonprofit and a tribal nation. At the same
time, we aspire to create much-needed southern access to Maine's
treasured Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument so it can be
accessed and enjoyed by all.
