Looking back on a fun summer and autumn in Clifton East

clifton eastclifton east

Here in Clifton we have had many fun filled events for local children and families. We held our annual Summer fun day in Clifton Flower Park with bouncy castles, arts and crafts, bubble machines and family picnics as well as Jellyfish Theatre Company’s production of The Jungle Book - over 2000 people turned out!  The weather was so hot and everyone had a great time, so thank you to everyone who came along,  it’s great to see that our beautiful park has now become our main area for community events.

Every week this year we have litter picked and washed down all the children’s play parks, ensuring that when families go to use them they are clean and tidy and we will continue to do this.

It was a pleasure to present local children with their reading medals from the Summer Reading Challenge that was led by Clifton Library -  what a fantastic effort by all the children who took part and read so many books during the summer holidays.

Also over the 6 week holidays we held outdoor pop up parks sports days; thank you to all that came along and joined in, the children all had a wonderful time.  We provided all children with free soft drinks and fresh fruit.

Your local Councillors were involved in the latest mural design that was run by Nottingham City Council Housing Services for Kieron Hill Court.  Pupils from Farnborough Academy submitted designs representing the Clifton community, and then these were painted along the wall outside the new building.  It was a privilege to present vouchers on behalf of Nottingham City Council Housing Services to those pupils.

A few weeks ago we held our annual Halloween event at the central park, we had 600 children attend with their families, we had games and sweets and the children (even the parents!) thoroughly enjoyed our haunted gazebos - thank you to all for coming along,  we look forward to next years event.

Remembrance Sunday was held at the Kieron Hill memorial next to Clifton library on Sunday 12th November, a time for our community to come together and pay their respects to those that were lost during the wars past and present.

Streets for People

Summerwood lane

Over 135 resurfacing schemes have been completed so far across the city.

In 2021, the council successfully bid as part of a competitive process for money from the Government’s Levelling Up fund to improve streets and local town centres, and make walking and cycling easier and safer.

Nottingham City Council has approved ÂŁ11million of improvements to make our neighbourhoods greener, safer, better places to get around. Work is due to be completed in March 2024. So far we have seen resurfacing works on Summerwood Lane completed.

Would you recognise the signs of gambling harm?

Gambling

Gambling can affect physical and mental health, damage relationships and leave people feeling lonely and isolated. It can also cause problems with employment, education, housing and lead to serious debt.

Gambling-related harm is under-recognised and often hidden. Many people being harmed by gambling don’t see themselves as a person with a problem and don’t recognise the issues it’s causing. When people do recognise they may have a problem, it can be hard to talk about it, or to reach out for help because of guilt, shame or worry.

If you notice that you, or someone you know is feeling stressed, anxious, thinking about gambling a lot of the time, or hiding their gambling from others, it could be a sign of gambling harm.

Become a foster carer

fostering

You can make difference for children in Nottingham by becoming a foster carer. The number of children in care in Nottingham is at a record high and we need more carers to provide children with a safe, secure and loving home. A home where they can thrive, grow and reach their potential.

Fostering is looking after a child when they can’t live with their own family. This can be for a couple of days, a few months, or many years. The children come from a range of different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

As a foster carer with Nottingham City Council you will get a weekly allowance. The allowance varies according to the child’s age and number of children you foster.
