As the holidays creep around the corner, we at Autism Speaks are grateful for your continued support of our mission to creating an inclusive world for all individuals with autism throughout their lifespan. This quarter, we’ve worked hard to bring informative webinars and podcasts to autistic adults, families and caregivers. We’ve also funded research on mental health in autistic youth and advocated for new bills that will expand access to services in our community. Thank you for making this work possible.

New legislation in Congress aims to advance autism services
Autism Speaks has endorsed several bills recently introduced in Congress that would expand and enhance services for people with autism and their loved ones. A few of those include the SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act which would help SSI recipients save without jeopardizing their benefits; the HCBS Relief Act which would provide much-needed support to state programs that fund home and community-based long-term care services; and the Alleviating Barriers for Caregiving Act which would help family caregivers more easily access supports.

Autism Speaks awards $135k of funding for mental health research
Autistic young adults, especially those in the Latino community, experience co-occurring mental health conditions at higher rates than non-autistic peers.

That’s why this quarter, Autism Speaks announced nearly $135,000 in grant funding to a postdoctoral researcher studying the transition to adulthood for Latino autistic youth. This fellowship project aims to bridge the service gap in Houston, Texas, enhancing mental health support and easing the transition to adulthood for these youth.
If you would like us to continue supporting research that improves quality of life for people on the spectrum, donate today.
