Taxpayer Subsidies for Amtrak Should be Derailed
- House Republicans have been pushing for spending cuts to reduce the unsustainably high federal budget deficit, which rose to $1.7 trillion for the latest fiscal year.
- Outrageous deficit spending during the pandemic helped to spur the brutal spike of inflation, which remains far above pre-pandemic levels. A typical family has lost thousands of dollars in purchasing power since January 2021.
- Amtrak received a hefty $2.5 billion in the most recent omnibus spending package. If Americans used the passenger rail service heavily, that cost might be justified. Amtrak, however, accounts for less than 0.1% of passenger miles traveled, meaning its share of transportation funding is grossly exaggerated.
- If Speaker Johnson and other Republicans can stick to commonsense budget cuts (such as reducing Amtrak subsidies) and take a pass on Mr. Biden’s dubious spending requests, it would mark an important first step toward restoring fiscal sanity to Washington.

The Left’s Hate Crime Double Standard Has Consequences
- In 2021, while working as the science coordinator for Indianapolis Public Schools, then the largest public school in Indiana, Tony Kinnett saw the eerie effects of race-based education on the students sitting under it.
- None of these racial accusations was founded on reproducible or quantifiable evidence, but the rage of Marxist philosophers like Herbert Marcuse and Paulo Freire, who claimed that a social or ethnic group’s oppression was because of the success of others.
- Such arguments ignore the history of the United States and the adventurously Abrahamic “American dream.”
- This kind of filth isn’t relegated only to white students. It affects other students from ethnic groups that Black Lives Matter chapters have described as “colonizers” as well.
- The Left has been carefully selective in the types of racism it endorses and decries—and our children have picked up on the message. These lessons they’ve taken to heart have already resulted in the assault and death of innocent students in just a few short years.

When the Left Says, “Border Security,” They Mean Increasing the Flow
- President Biden is asking Congress for $13.6 billion in “border security funding.”
- But when the Left says, “border security,” they don’t mean securing the border, they mean increasing the flow.
- The president’s $13.6 billion request includes funding for additional Customs and Border Protection officers to process more illegal aliens quickly into the U.S. and buy more plane and bus tickets to move illegal aliens to the nation’s interior faster.
- Biden’s request would fund more federal bureaucrats to hand out work permits faster. It would cut travel time and costs for people not authorized to come to America by paying to fly illegal immigrants directly in rather than having to walk to the border.
- The funding sought by Biden’s request would make the border crisis worse.
