I want to give you a hat and tell you about all the campaigns we’ve been working on this week.

Hi John,

Our designer has made a ton of cool merch recently and we'd love to send you something. Here’s the deal, if you’re able to make a monthly donation to make the wide array of work we’re doing possible we’ll ship you a gift to say thanks.

The truth is we are working at capacity right now, and monthly support is what allows us to keep up on critical campaigns while also jumping to action on rapid response issues. Here are just some of the things we’ve been working on the past week:

  • We just had to put together a rapid response campaign plan to fight the reauthorization of Section 215 of the US PATRIOT Act, and specifically call out the Democrats who are pushing for weak sauce reforms.

  • We’re supporting two state campaigns for net neutrality (while planning for an FCC comment period about how Ajit Pai’s repeal of net neutrality is harming public safety and rural communities). Our goal is to ensure that these bills are as strong or stronger than the California bill that we helped pass in 2018.

  • We’re upping the pressure on campuses using facial recognition (including the ones called out in a recent article about Clearview). And we’ve gotten at least five emails this week from people around the world who want our support fighting facial recognition in their communities.

  • We’re gearing up to organize our first national day of action against Amazon Ring’s surveillance partnerships with police.

  • We’re getting ready to launch a campaign encouraging lawmakers to ensure that any attempt to regulate decentralized technology like cryptocurrencies does not adversely affect marginalized communities.

These are all important issues. But to keep up all these fights takes resources, so I’m asking you to make a commitment to this work:

  • Become a monthly donor. Your gift will help make sure we have the resources for all these campaigns—for the ongoing fights and the urgent, rapid response moments.

  • After you start your monthly gift, we’ll send you a new Fight for the Future hat our designer just created. This way, you can wear your support and show the world that you’re fighting for the digital rights we need.

Fight for the Future hat

All of the work we’re doing is critical—it’s about protecting your rights and your safety—and sometimes we can plan for it. But other times opportunities or problems pop up, and we have to dive in quickly to take advantage of the moment. That’s when the support of monthly donors is critical. With your monthly gift we’ll know we have the resources to dive into the most critical fights as they come up.

Fight for the Future works with a really small budget—much smaller than many organizations that work on tech and Internet issues. But we do a lot with what we’ve got. Our team is scrappy, dedicated, nimble, and able to adapt to the political moment to move our campaigns forward.

So when you make a small, monthly donation, you can be certain that your contribution is being put to work effectively to fight for the issues you care most about. And we’d love to thank you for your gift with a new Fight for the Future hat!

We really couldn’t do this without you, so thanks in advance for whatever you’re able to give.

Together,

Caitlin at Fight for the Future
