The most important thing you can do to advance a Green New Deal is to help Bernie Sanders win.

John,

Last night, hundreds of us joined together from across the country on a mass call (Link to call recording) to talk about this moment in history, what Super Tuesday's election results mean for our movement for a Green New Deal, and where we go from here. We laid out a plan and strategy for how our movement can keep gaining strength through the Democratic National convention in July no matter what happens with the Presidential primary. In a minute, I'll lay out more of that plan, but in this urgent moment of immense political volatility, every day matters, and I want to tell you the most important thing you can do right now.

Today and tomorrow, the most important thing you can do for the Green New Deal movement is to help Bernie Sanders have as strong as possible of a showing in the elections on Tuesday as possible — especially in the critical state of Michigan.

Right now, the Democratic establishment is consolidating around Joe Biden and the media is beginning to tell a narrative of Biden as the most electable candidate against Trump. The truth is that the policies that Bernie Sanders supports, like a Green New Deal, are extremely popular with voters, especially independent voters, and poll-after-poll-after-poll shows that Bernie beats Trump. If we can get that message out to voters and our friends, we can make a difference. If you've never done it before, it's easy and fun, and the campaign will help you with instructions every step of the way.

Even if Bernie comes up short in these states, the stronger he does, the less the media will write our movement off, the more delegates he'll get, and the stronger of a position we'll be heading into the Democratic National Convention in July. That will give us a stronger hand to ensure that the Green New Deal becomes a part of the Democratic platform, no matter who the nominee is. The next two days are critical, and everything you can do, every person you can talk to, every friend you can text or call, every post you share on social media, or door you can knock matters.

Ok, here's the rest of the plan:

  1. Elect Bernie, Push Joe. From now through April 28th — when 88% of delegates to the convention will be allocated — is our critical window to do everything we can to elect Bernie Sanders and push Joe Biden on the Green New Deal. If we do everything we can on both fronts, we can continue to advance the Green New Deal in the Democratic Party.
  2. Elect Green New Deal Congressional Candidates. There are a number of important down-ballot primaries coming up, including the key races of Marie Newman, Robert Emmons, Jr. and Morgan Harper in the Midwest on March 17th. Our movement has real power to make a massive difference in these races. After seeing Jessica Cisneros come up short by just 2,700 votes, let's not take these for granted again. We'll be sending out more on how you can start organizing around that on Wednesday.
  3. Build our movement for the long haul. No matter what, our movement must continue to grow. If we're not winning, it's because we're not big enough and powerful enough. But if enough of us do the necessary work of growing our movement by starting Strike Circles and Sunrise Hubs in our communities, eventually victory will be inevitable. We'll have another big opportunity to flex the power of our movement by turning up on elected officials across the country on April 22nd, the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day. Coming out of Earth Day, we'll take the momentum of that moment and bring our movement's power to the Democratic National Convention to fight for the Green New Deal in the Democratic Platform.
No matter what happens in the next couple of days, weeks, and months, remember this: together, we have the power to change the world. And eventually we will, sure as the sun rises each morning.

Now, I'm gonna go make some calls for Bernie! (and you should, too)
