Hey there,
Something absolutely stinks right now - and it’s the high cost of diapers.
Right now in our country, one-in-four working parents and caregivers are
dealing with “Diaper Need” – meaning a lack of access to affordable
diapers – and as a result have missed work or school because they did not
have money to buy enough diapers to keep their babies clean, dry and
healthy at childcare. [ [link removed] ] Missing work and losing money means parents have
even less money to buy diapers. THAT IS ONE VICIOUS CYCLE AND WE NEED TO
BREAK IT.
[1]→ Urge your members of Congress TODAY to sign on as co-sponsors of the
End Diaper Need Act of 2023!
What’s happening? First, let’s start with the basics: Diapers are a hugely
important part of a baby’s health and safety and most childcare centers
mandate disposable diapers for hygiene reasons. Babies need regular
changes to stay clean, dry, and healthy and reduce the risk of infections,
diaper rash and other significant health problems. For an average week of
childcare parents need to provide 30-40 diapers, per child! [ [link removed] ]
Diaper Need is a growing public health issue that leaves parents unable to
afford enough diapers to keep their infant or child clean, dry, and
healthy. It absolutely does not have to be this way!
The End Diaper Need Act of 2023 was introduced in both the U.S. Senate and
House of Representatives just a few weeks ago! [ [link removed] ][ [link removed] ] These pieces of
legislation would help to alleviate the burden of Diaper Need, by
investing $200 million each fiscal year from 2024 through 2027 to fund the
expansion and scaling of programs addressing diaper need and improving the
health and wellbeing of infants, toddlers, and families across the
country.
The legislation also defines diapers as “medically necessary,” allowing
families to purchase diapers through health savings accounts and HRAs! [ [link removed] ]
This is HUGE for families!

The bottom line is that parents should not have to miss work because they
cannot afford diapers. Diapers are absolutely essential to a baby’s
physical and emotional wellbeing and for families’ economic security.
Ending Diaper Need promotes better health outcomes for children and better
economic outcomes for their families. The End Diaper Need Act will
substantially reduce Diaper Need and allow parents to continue providing
for their families. [3]Don’t forget to tell your members of Congress TODAY
