What would the Railway Safety Act do?

  • It would require the Secretary of Transportation to establish rigorous safety requirements for trains carrying hazardous materials.
  • It would expedite the phasing-out of old railroad cars that no longer comply with modern safety standards.
  • It would allocate funds for research and development related to making our railroads safer while balancing efficiency of transportation.
