Friends,
Right now, the U.S. Virgin Islands is in a state of emergency after the EPA and local agencies found a significant amount of lead and copper in our drinking water.
I understand the fear and concern that Virgin Islanders have in a very real way about this. My husband and I are two of the thousands of people in the Virgin Islands who have used potable water and currently rely solely on bottled water to access safe drinking water.
I’m incredibly thankful that we’ve already passed $1.5 billion through different federal programs to address infrastructure issues like water pipes. The funding is already available, but it could take years to replace the old piping.
That’s why we need immediate help from the Biden Administration. A lot of the money is currently tied to replacing the old system, but we need more resources to give people free water while these infrastructure projects get completed.
If you agree everyone deserves access to clean drinking water as a basic human right, will you add your name to my petition to call for immediate action today?
