John,
Today, the Voter Choice Act was reintroduced in the U.S. Senate by Michael
Bennet (CO) and co-sponsored by Angus King (ME). The act will provide $40
million in federal matching grants to support cities, counties, and states that
choose to adoptranked choice voting(RCV).
Please take a few minutes and use thissimple formto ask your senators to support
the Voter Choice Act.
Why the Voter Choice Act matters
RCV is the nation’s fastest-growing election reform because it’s popular with
voters and elected officials alike. It is now used in over50 cities, counties,
and states, reaching approximately 16 million Americans. Just last Tuesday, five
cities voted to adopt, keep, or expand RCV – and it couldexpand even furtherin
2024, with at least Nevada and Oregon voting on whether to adopt it statewide.
RCV is easy to implement, and the Voter Choice Act would make it even easier.
Voter Choice Act funds can go toward upgrading voting equipment and tabulation
software (all modern voting machines are RCV-compatible), appropriate ballot
design, development and publication of educational materials, and voter
outreach. That’s in addition to the cost savings that many cities and counties
see when they use RCV to replace runoffs!
“Ranked choice voting makes our elections better by giving voters better choices
and rewarding candidates who run issues-driven campaigns. While most cities
actually save money by using RCV to replace runoffs or two-round contests, the
Voter Choice Act will give more Americans the opportunity to try RCV – by
helping to offset any voter education and implementation costs with approaches
that further boost election security and voter confidence.” – Deb Otis, FairVote
