National Democrats and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries brought this case seeking to overturn their defeat in the state Court of Appeals last year which tossed the partisan districts enacted by the legislature and Governor Hochul. The Court ordered fair districts drawn by a neutral expert which resulted in the GOP winning 11 U.S. House seats.
However, in an unexpected twist, House Democrats have proposed a dubious legal theory. They argue that the current congressional districts were only meant for the 2022 elections despite clear constitutional directives stating otherwise.
