He had originally received his lawful permanent resident status under the Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act and found his way to ILCM through a partnership between ILCM and the Latino Economic Development Center. Today, Maynor owns his own house painting company and he and his family live in Southern Minnesota. Four of his five children are also U.S. citizens.
Your gift today will help make new beginnings like this one possible.
Last year, ILCM assisted over 300 clients in successfully naturalizing as U.S. citizens. Naturalization is critical for immigrant families to secure the legal rights and protections of U.S. citizens. Only U.S. citizens are permanently protected from deportation and can vote. Like Maynor, U.S. citizen adults are also able to derive citizenship for their children and spouses, which supports family unity and stability. U.S. citizens are better able to access employment and scholarships, enhancing income, career advancement, and associated benefits, such as home ownership, health insurance enrollment, and workforce participation.
Your investment in the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota is an investment in our communities, our economy, and in the thousands of essential, hopeful, patient, and resilient immigrants and refugees for whom legal status would open doors to living full, healthy, and happy lives.
If you like to plan ahead, early giving is underway, and it counts towards our Give to the Max Day total. In fact, there are still opportunities for the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota to receive early giving prize money.
