Friend -
There is so much to do and so little time to do it. So where do we begin?
Well, let’s start with our own backyard. We are gearing up for some intense fights in California, our home state. Starting with our “Down is What’s Up!” campaign we will be looking at the controversial school board races where the Right is attacking LGBTQ+ rights and trying to characterize critical thinking as a negative.
We are also going to be active around critical environmental issues such as divestment from fossil fuel companies and building alliances between environmental groups and our grassroots allies focused on community empowerment.
And there will be electoral battles. The US Senate seat is top of the list followed by key battles in LA for DA (building support for DA George Gascon), and our varied support for statewide races for Assembly and Senate. But as we say, down is what’s up, we will be battling it out at the school board level as well as the Right continues to deepen its strategies catalyzed in Texas and Florida of using racist and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric to unite Rightwing activists, including in CA.
Our core strategy in all of this is to find ways to empower our communities. When our voters get out to the ballot box we gain a bit more power. For example, we will be doing a series of community forums to build grassroots support for Barbara Lee for Senate. The key thing here is working with local community groups in San Diego, Los Angeles, the Inland Empire (San Bernardino and Riverside) and in the SF Bay Area with a focus on Contra Costa and Alameda. These forums will seek to excite voters and activate activists into the grassroots groups we are aligned with. In this way building our long term prospects for community engagement and empowerment.
We have seen many gains over the past few years, helping to gain a majority in Congress. We have continued to build the movement around criminal justice and reforming our legal system to help those in need and at the same time increase public safety. We have also continued to build our community leadership from the bottom up. From school boards to the US Senate, down is what’s up!
Over the next few weeks I will be covering our focus for political engagement. Today, CA and soon AZ, WI, and North Carolina. Keep tuned for detail on the battles we will be waging.

PowerPAC is a social justice organization that strategically directs financial and human resources to local and state organizations working to deliver wins in legislative fights, ballot initiatives, and more. For years the money we've raised has, dollar for dollar, been given back to the communities we work with. We've made sure that your investments were being used to build power for our communities because too often we are underrepresented and ignored.
