As subscribers to Democracy Defender, you have demonstrated a commitment to American democracy in the fight against the forces of extremism that threaten it. Your support has been a tremendous source of personal and professional strength for me, and I am most grateful.
I’m reaching out to let you know that I am involved in another mission that affects us all: reducing gun deaths in America. I’m currently leading 97Percent [ [link removed] ], an organization with the unique and vital mission of reducing gun deaths by including gun owners in the solutions. We’re working to move beyond thoughts and prayers [ [link removed] ].
Even in our highly polarized times, there is surprising consensus among gun owners and non-gun owners alike that more can and should be done to prevent the senseless level of violence we endure in the U.S. Smart policies that build on this unity and harness cutting-edge technologies in the process are exactly what we need right now.
This issue is as much about democracy as voting itself. If the American people—across ideologies, socioeconomics, and other dividing lines—share so much common ground on it, why can’t we seem to do anything that solves the problem? The truth is, we can, and that’s where 97Percent comes in.
We stand together to advance pragmatic, bipartisan, tech-driven policies—supported by a majority of Americans—that we know work because the data supports them.
