ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY: THE BIRTH OF AMERICAN FEDERALISM

On November 15, 1777, a pivotal moment in American history
unfolded as the Continental Congress approved the Articles of
Confederation, laying the foundation for the United States'
journey towards a more perfect union. The Articles of
Confederation, often considered the precursor to the U.S.
Constitution, marked a critical step in the early days of the
American Republic. This document reflected the nation's struggle
for balance between states' rights and a centralized federal
government.

Under the Articles of Confederation, the United States functioned
as a loose confederation of sovereign states, each retaining
significant autonomy. However, as the years passed, it became
evident that this arrangement was fraught with challenges,
leading to a desire for a more robust federal system. The
Constitutional Convention of 1787 would eventually replace the
Articles of Confederation with the U.S. Constitution, reshaping
the nation's governance and ensuring its enduring strength as a
united, democratic republic. November 15th stands as a vital
milestone in America's journey toward the creation of a more
perfect union, where the principles of liberty, justice, and
democracy could thrive.
