Friend,
Since the morning of November 10, Al Shifa hospital and the area around it have seen escalating violence as relentless fighting continues in Gaza. The medical complex has been hit several times, including our maternity and outpatient departments, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries. Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) remain steadfast in our calls for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire and for the protection of medical facilities, medical staff, and patients.
For the past month, Mohammad H., a Palestinian MSF nurse, has worked around the clock at Al Shifa hospital—the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip—responding to continuous mass casualty events, trying to save lives in the most unimaginable conditions. And he is not alone.
Our teams are witnessing a humanitarian catastrophe unfold in Gaza. Thousands of Palestinian civilians have been killed and thousands more injured. Hospitals are overwhelmed and barely functioning. Essential supplies like food, clean water, and fuel are dwindling.
Mohammad describes a scene of desperation, where every hour is an emergency:
MSF staff like Mohammad remain committed to treating patients and providing the care they desperately need, even with no guarantee of personal safety. “We cannot stay away and just watch,” Mohammad said, “we are here to save lives.”
Friend, in moments of crisis, your support and dedication have never been more important. We are grateful that you've chosen to support our movement. We’re proud to stand with humanitarians like you who believe that every person deserves compassionate medical care.
This is not the only emergency our teams are responding to right now. From escalating violence in Sudan to three devastating earthquakes in Afghanistan, MSF is providing lifesaving care with the help of staff like Mohammad and supporters like you. Thank you for believing in providing humanitarian medical care around the world.
Sincerely,
Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières USA
P.S. We will continue to keep you informed about MSF’s humanitarian work around the world and let you know how you can support our efforts in the days and weeks to come.
