Just released: "Data Collected Under the First Step Act, 2019" [ [link removed] ]

This report, the first required under the First Step Act of 2018, presents selected characteristics of federal prisoners and facility-level statistics, including


* marital, veteran, citizenship, and English-speaking status
* education levels
* medical conditions
* participation in treatment programs
* number of assaults on staff by prisoners
* prisoners violations that resulted in time-credit reductions
* facility characteristics related to accreditation, on-site health care, remote learning, video conferencing, and costs of prisoners phone calls.

Findings are based on data from BJSs First Step Act Supplement to the National Prisoner Statistics program [ [link removed] ], as required by Congress under the First Step Act of 2018 (FSA; P.L. 115-391). Data were provided to BJS by the Federal Bureau of Prisons for calendar year 2018, which is prior to the enactment of the FSA.
