Donald Trump is talking a lot these days about what he’ll do if he gets back to the White House.

His plans include everything from a mass firing of civil servants to weaponizing the Justice Department against his personal enemies. He says he’ll deport millions of people a year and bring back his unconstitutional “Muslim ban.” He wants shoplifters to be shot and the homeless to be locked up.

And on multiple occasions now, he’s taken a page out of the fascism playbook by describing his political opponents as “vermin” who pose a bigger threat to our way of life than foreign terrorists. When reporters correctly pointed out that this term echoed the language of Hitler and Mussolini, his campaign team lashed out, saying these journalists' "entire existence will be crushed when President Trump returns to the White House.” That’s far from subtle.

Trump is no longer flirting with authoritarianism — he’s promising it.
