Assalamu'alaykum John,
I pray this message finds you and your loved ones safe, secure, and
successful so far in your efforts to reap Allah's rewards in these 10
days of blessings, in shaa Allah.
I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you why I have been on
the Board of MLFA for the past 15 years, and why their work is more
relevant now than ever.
I've always been very passionate about the cause of justice and have
been an ally to those who work to promote it in various ways.
One way is through a legal fund that began in my hometown of Dallas,
Texas, during one of the most shocking trials against a Muslim charity
we have ever witnessed: the Holy Land Foundation trial.
I vowed to support the work of Muslim
Legal Fund of America ever since, because I could not let such a
travesty befall any individual or organization ever again. We have to
learn from our tragedies and work towards a better tomorrow, and for me,
this meant investing in the work of MLFA.
You may be wondering just how justice can be served through a legal
fund. As a charity, MLFA turns donations into legal services for
strategic cases with potential civil liberties impact. This is sometimes
referred to as impact litigation. These are cases that make those in the
justice system take notice and realize that Muslims will not be
intimidated, targeted, and discriminated against in the court of law.
They help set precedents that help future cases succeed.
MLFA also funds programs that ensure that Muslim organizations function
at their best, by promoting legal compliance, mitigating risk factors,
and empowering their leadership.
The lawyers at the MLFA-funded law center not only have to uphold and
defend justice, they have to do it in a climate where Islamophobia is
rampant and facts don't matter... that is no easy feat.
So, how can we as individuals make an impact where justice for Muslims
in America is at stake?
By supporting MLFA's efforts to:
* Defend constitutional civil rights and liberties of Muslims in
America.
* Provide the best legal representation to Muslims facing religious
discrimination.
* Restore justice to innocent Muslims and their families.
* Empower and protect American Muslim individuals and institutions.
How does MLFA do this?
* Since 2001, MLFA has been the only national nonprofit legal fund
dedicated to defending the constitutional civil rights and liberties of
Muslims in America at the federal level in high-risk national security
matters.
* MLFA funds the Constitutional Law Center for Muslims in America,
bringing together some of the most qualified, experienced, and respected
legal minds under one roof to collaboratively work on behalf of Muslims.
* MLFA invests back into the community by hosting the Muslim Nonprofit
Leadership Conference, a nation-wide, multi-city tour of law conferences
geared to empowering the institutions and leaders who serve our
communities.
* There is growing demand for this valuable information to be made
accessible to more members of our communities, which inspired MLFA's
upcoming project: the eLearning Law Center for Muslims, an initiative
that will take the wealth of information presented at Leadership
Conferences and put it at your fingertips. This state-of-the-art
resource of videos is aimed at breaking down the complexity of the law
into topics that are relevant and useful to the American Muslim
community - and will be made available online and on-demand.
The ultimate goal of MLFA's efforts is a safe and secure America with
a strong, vibrant Muslim community contributing to American society all
across the nation.
I want you to know that donating to MLFA is also a safe, secure, and in
shaa Allah, effective way to spend of your wealth in the way of Allah
during these blessed ten days. MLFA is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt and
zakat-eligible GoldStar charity.
Will you join me in supporting the work that makes justice, possible?
Your brother and ally for justice,
Tarek Alkadri
