Hi John,
Every year the feds automatically hikes taxes on the alcoholic drinks that you enjoy. They raise your taxes without a single vote in Parliament.
Taxes already account for about half the price of beer, 65 per cent of the cost of wine and more than three quarters the price of spirits. Almost nothing else in Canada is taxed as heavily as the Syrah you sip with your better half or the pilsner you crack after a long day of work.
And the feds are set to hike their alcohol taxes by another 4.7 per cent this year.
Here’s the thing. Even if you don’t drink, it’s important to know politicians are increasing their tax take without a vote in Parliament. It’s a fundamental principle that elected representatives have to vote on tax hikes.
We want to know where you stand on the Trudeau government’s automatic alcohol tax hike.
