This week — take action for Gaza: The establishment won’t stand up for Palestinians and is turning a blind eye to genocide. From the streets to the halls of power, we must stand up against the war machine and say: No Money For Massacres! We can and must fight back against the ongoing attacks on Gaza, wherever we can. That is why we are sounding off for all comrades to keep calling their congress members, and let them know we stand in solidarity in the fight for Palestinian survival and liberation.
You can sign up for a phonebank shift with DSA National here, or call Congressman Troy Carter directly: (202) 225-6636, and leave a message demanding an immediate ceasefire. Make your voice heard, and show up for local events and rallies in support of Palestinian Liberation. Most local events are being amplified via our social media pages on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook — please follow along there for quick updates on actions.
This Thursday at 12pm, our members will join protesters marching from Lafayette Square (602 Camp Street) demanding a stop in all military aid to Israel from New Orleans ports. We hope you will join us.

Big Easy Deal Updates: At our last chapter meeting, we voted to endorse the Big Easy Deal for a more inclusive, equitable New Orleans budget. Our coalition is advocating for a plan that would use $148M of the city’s budget to address the root causes of violence through investments in affordable housing, community equity, community violence intervention, and youth services and programs.
Here’s a few quick actions you can take to support the Big Easy Deal:
Post on social media. Screenshot/save the graphic below and post up on your socials with the link above!
Volunteer to canvass for the Big Easy Deal. We want to knock on doors in every city council district. Message Janette at NOWCRJ to volunteer ([email protected]).
This is crunch time! City Council is negotiating the city's annual budget this month and it has to be finalized by the beginning of December. Feel free to reach out if you have questions.

Statewide Elections: Don’t forget, this Saturday, November 18th is Election Day again, again. Check your voter information via GeauxVote here, and make a plan to vote on Saturday (if you haven’t already). Pundits are already projecting another low-turnout election across the state, so make sure to get out and get counted. In addition to a few remaining statewide and local offices, there are also 4 statewide ballot initiatives. We will be releasing a supplemental voter guide this week for the remaining races. You can review our previous notes on the primary election here.
Solidarity forever,
New Orleans Local Council
