I’ve told you before that North Carolina is a 2024 battleground state. I’ve been getting a lot of questions from people who want to know if we can really succeed here — flip blue for the presidential election, hold the governor’s office, and defeat the GOP’s legislative supermajority.

Here’s what I say when folks ask me if Democrats can win NC: We can, we must, and we will.

North Carolina is a true toss-up state. Under our current congressional district maps, we have an equal number of Democratic and Republican House representatives. In 2020, Donald Trump’s narrowest victory came here, winning by just 1.3 points. I won my gubernatorial elections in the same years that Trump carried the state.

Democrats have proven that we CAN win here — both statewide and in legislative races — if we have what we need to compete.

Republicans don’t want to compete on an even playing field. They’re trying to undermine our electoral process to give their party an edge. But we won’t back down, because our fight is too important to lose.

The far-right has attacked women, LGBTQ+ North Carolinians, and voters with regressive legislation, but they’ll go further still if they win in 2024. We MUST defeat them.
