John, after a sweeping victory in Ohio on Issue 1, Republicans in the state are vowing to subvert the will of the voters regardless of their support of reproductive freedoms. In a statement released by Republican state representatives, they said: "To prevent mischief by pro-abortion courts with Issue 1, Ohio legislators will consider removing jurisdiction from the judiciary over this ambiguous ballot initiative...The Ohio legislature alone will consider what, if any, modifications to make to existing laws based on public hearings and input from legal experts on both sides." Even with a majority of the vote in favor of abortion rights, the GOP will continue their radical push to control the lives and bodies of Americans, even if that means shifting the balance of powers around in their states to continue on their crusade. National polls show time and time again that the majority of voters agree with expanded reproductive freedoms and disagree with the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The GOP has controlled the barriers of this discussion in both state and national conversations, like the recent Republican Presidential debates. Their rejection of facts and nuance makes them the biggest threat to abortion care and reproductive freedom - even when their own voters agree with those freedoms. Because Republicans have taken over this conversation, even when they lose on the policy - it must be said: reproductive healthcare is a complex and personal topic. - Late-term abortions are an outlier in the abortions that are performed in the country - around only 1% of them.
- Many abortion laws across the nation make no exceptions for rape or incest.
- A six-week ban is an effective ban and is not ample time for many people to even know that they are pregnant.
Help us elect lawmakers across the nation who understand this complex issue and do not fall in line with extremist and ignorant rhetoric. Chip in today: |
