*Coronavirus has the world in a panic.
*Russia is pulling out of its oil price-fixing deal with OPEC, causing a cratering of world oil prices, just as demand is cratering independently due to coronavirus.
*The combination of these two negative pressures caused such a steep downward pressure on the stock market that the circuit breakers kicked in and trading was suspended by the Exchange authorities.
*Those invested in the markets would do well to remember that you neither profit nor lose until you actually sell.
And on the political side, even though there is no plausible way to blame these events on the occupant of 1600, it is the duty of the opposition party to attempt to do so. And they WILL try. What CAN and SHOULD be the purview of the president is how the nation responds to these events. The response to coronavirus has been good, though some of the messaging has been inconsistent. The oil crash began last night, our time, and it is far too early to tell what kind of response we will have and how effective it will be. The Russians and Saudis had been working together to dominate the world market to the detriment of American oil production. Their joint effort failed, and yesterday Russia announced an end to their continued joint effort with the Saudis. Oil prices fell by as much as 1/3 in response, and the financial world is in crisis.
And locally...
At least we should see some relief at the gas pumps this week!!
