John, our planet’s native species – plants and animals that evolved naturally to their environments – need our help.
A new study suggests that compared to their non-native counterparts, native species are suffering from more far-reaching decreases in population size and habitat loss following extreme weather caused by climate change.
According to ecologist Giovanni Vimercati, the discrepancy in the impact of climate change between native and non-native species could be because “species able to rapidly establish populations in alien environments [non-native species] tend to be those with high reproduction rates, more adaptable behavior and physiology, and higher tolerance for disturbances.”
We must act to protect our earth’s native species from the destructive heat waves, cold snaps, droughts, and floods that are becoming more common as our planet warms.
Biodiversity is essential to the health of our planet, and these animals don’t deserve to suffer because of human mistakes.
Thanks to your help in 2022, SEEC PAC was able to re-elect over 95% of our pro-environment members to the U.S. House of Representatives — defying the odds on a night where Democrats lost seats. Now we are counting on you to help our SEEC members pass climate, clean energy and environmental justice policies in the 118th Congress while we continue fighting for a sustainable future. But if you'd like to receive fewer emails, we understand. You can click here to only get our most important messages, or you can unsubscribe.
