Exporting Freedom and Prosperity

What to Know: More exported liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the U.S. will make energy more affordable—and cleaner—for India, officials say.

The TPPF Take: More LNG exports is good news for Texans—and the U.S., and the world.

“As the U.S. ramps up exports of oil and liquefied natural gas, we’re not just exporting energy,” says TPPF’s Katie Tahuahua. “Providing cheap, reliable energy to other countries means we’re exporting freedom and prosperity. The abundant energy that is fueling our economic boom will benefit other countries, as well.”

Paid Sick Leave

What to Know: An appeals court has stayed San Antonio’s mandatory paid sick leave law, after the city sought to get its approval to implement the measure.

The TPPF Take: San Antonio’s paid sick leave mandate is clearly unconstitutional.

“The facts of this case are very simple,” says TPPF’s Rob Henneke, who led the successful fight against a similar ordinance in Austin. “Cities can’t adopt a minimum wage that’s higher than the state minimum wage, and by mandating pay for time not worked, the San Antonio ordinance—and others like it—do just that. Cities have no business intervening in the relationship between employers and employees.”

Not a Real Doctor

What to Know: More and more health care decisions are being made by insurance companies—not physicians and their patients.

The TPPF Take: Health care decisions shouldn’t be made by insurance companies—or for that matter, government bureaucrats.

“Insurers’ business plans are getting in the way of the doctor/patient relationship,” says TPPF’s David Balat. “We need a sane system that gives patients and their physicians the power over health care decisions.”
