Integrating a Reproductive Justice Framework in Climate Research

While climate change affects both women and men, the way it is experienced differs significantly by gender.

As a result, academic researchers, government agencies, and think tanks are making efforts to integrate a gender-specific lens into their climate research—an approach known as gender mainstreaming.

But there's more work to be done to capture these intersecting issues and address them by, for example, using a reproductive justice framework to better understand and respond to the outsized effects climate change has on women <[link removed]>. Unfortunately, there is a clear lack of attention or interest in rigorously applying this lens to climate research.

If leaders in the field use a reproductive justice framework in their climate research, they will be more inclusive and effective in their ideas and ensure human rights and social justice are at the center of any agenda or proposal.
