Building community support for a ceasefire this weekend
?
The situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate as the number of deaths now exceeds 11,000, two-thirds of them women and children. Thousands more are reported missing, believed to be trapped or dead under the rubble of buildings destroyed by Israeli airstrikes. Hospitals are shutting down and aid agencies are running out of vital supplies.
?
Last Saturday, more than 800,000 people came from across the country to march for a ceasefire. The immense, peaceful demonstration was one of the biggest in Britain's history; it reflected the strength of public feeling and the outrage at attempts by the then Home Secretary to get the march banned. Public opinion is overwhelmingly for a ceasefire and that is also expressed through the lobbying of MPs that is taking place - urging them to get government and party policy changed.
