Over the past week more than thirty people have lost their lives in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas. Dozens more were injured, young children lost their parents.
On Monday evening in St. Pete, hundreds gathered to remember the victims of these horrific acts of gun violence. Illuminated by flickering candlelight, we not only remembered the lives lost, we honored them by demanding action.
Join us in demanding action by signing this petition calling on Mitch McConnell to bring the Senate back into session immediately, to pass the bipartisan, comprehensive background check bills passed by the House earlier this year.

Back in February, we passed legislation in the People’s House that would require a background check for everyone who wants to buy a gun and would prevent someone from purchasing a gun before their background check is complete, known as the “Charleston loophole.’
These measures are common sense and will help save lives, period.
Unfortunately, this legislation has been sitting on Mitch McConnell’s desk in the Senate for months, without a hearing or a vote. That’s why we have to do everything we can to demand action before another community is torn apart.

Friends, this is not a Republican issue, or a Democratic issue; it’s an American issue. The people are demanding action from their elected leaders to protect them, and we can’t afford any further delays.
We have an epidemic in this country, and the only way to stop it is by holding our leaders in Washington and throughout our nation accountable to do the right thing.
