There are just over 6 years to meet the 2030 target to cut emissions by over two-thirds.
If the government doesn’t have a credible and fair plan to cut emissions soon, even more extreme climate breakdown will be felt in the UK and around the world. And the most vulnerable who did the least to contribute to the climate crisis will be impacted most with sea-level rise, extreme heat, flooding and storms.
With climate targets to reach by 2030 every country needs to do its bit to tackle climate breakdown. Mr Sunak promised on the world stage that the UK government would meet its 2030 target. But the government is off-track to deliver this pledge, and now its international reputation as a climate leader is going down the drain.
But more importantly, the UK government has a global responsibility to honour its climate commitments. Especially as a country that benefited massively from its past industrial emissions, putting us in a better position to do more now.
To stay below the 1.5 degree global heating limit, rapidly cutting emissions is vital. Help us hold the UK government to its 2030 climate target and sign the letter before it’s given to the PM.
