John — In both the trauma bay and the Air Force, I learned that to find solutions, we need to focus on the cold, difficult facts. So here’s the reality:
Our state is 28th in the nation in education. When compared to other states, we spend roughly $4,000 less than the national average on per-pupil spending. 53.5% of our students are at risk of dropping out, and our teachers are paid $7,000 less than the national average.
Our students and teachers are struggling while gun violence threatens their safety and extremist politicians push their political agenda in the classroom.
The problem is not our students, or our hard-working teachers. These issues are a direct consequence of failed leadership.

As a proud graduate of the public school system and father of a school age daughter, I know how important it is to invest in our public schools.
