John, the Purple Heart isn't an award anyone sets out to receive.
As a veteran injured in combat myself, the only thing I ever wanted out of my service was for the men and women who served with me to be safe and proud they stood shoulder-to-shoulder with me.
But the reality is that many service members are injured in combat, and the Purple Heart is bestowed upon those who have made incredible sacrifices for their comrades and their country.
For some, these sacrifices affect their lives every day. And, for others, it has meant the ultimate sacrifice.
Today, on Purple Heart Day, you can honor the patriotism, dedication and sacrifices of servicemen and women injured in combat by adding a flag to DAV’s Field of Flags.
