John,

On Sunday, Speaker Mike Johnson presented his short-term plan to keep our government open before Friday's deadline — but already, House Republicans are divided and leading us towards a crisis.

Our government is facing a shutdown in just four days, and the consequences will be significant: more than one million members of the armed forces, federal law enforcement officers, and other federal employees will be forced to continue serving without pay, while hundreds of thousands more public workers will be furloughed. Vital functions of our government will stop, from protecting our environment to supporting our schools, to processing payments to thousands of vendors. All of this will occur right before the holidays.

If we face a prolonged shutdown, our working families could be impacted by funding problems with programs like WIC, Head Start, and SNAP benefits.

I am deeply encouraged that in the Senate, my colleagues and I have shown a willingness to come together to meet the needs of the American people. On the other side of the Capitol, however, the House GOP is failing to lead our country at our most critical moment.

The one thing Speaker Johnson hasn't tried is bipartisanship. It's time for him and the House Republicans to take up that challenge and move forward with Democrats for the sake of the people we serve.

If you agree it's time to prevent a needless government shutdown, add your name right next to mine to urge the Republicans to fund our government>> [link removed]

Thank you,
