John,
Congress has 4 working days left to pass a funding bill in order to avert a government shutdown at midnight this Friday.
Extremists in the House are pushing deep cuts to services like Head Start, K-12 education, mental health services, and WIC. The last thing we need is a government shutdown over right-wing demands.
And while many members of Congress are focused only on the cost of each program, we’re focused on the human lives that each program serves. Does your family receive nutrition assistance or rely on Head Start? What about veterans’ benefits, child care, or housing? Or, do you depend on Social Security, Medicare, or Medicaid?1
If you’re willing to share your story on how a government shutdown, or how attacks on these critical programs, will affect you and your family, click here. We’ll share your story with members of Congress in our fight to protect critical programs and avert a shutdown.

The consequences of a government shutdown would be devastating to millions of families and communities—and so would the cuts being demanded by right-wing members of Congress.
In order to avert a shutdown and fight-back against right-wing cuts, we’re telling the stories of real people and how these critical programs and services make the difference in the lives of millions of people.
Click here to share your story today of how a shutdown or cuts would impact you and your family.
This project is being implemented in conjunction with our allies at Heath Care Voices, Social Security Works, and Courage for America.
Thank you for all you do,
Deborah Weinstein Executive Director, Coalition on Human Needs
1 Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid benefits will not cease in a shutdown. But if you are having a problem or need to share information to maintain eligibility, it will be much harder to reach staff to get the help you need.
