Folks, our organizing efforts just expanded: We have four new grantees!

A graphic displaying the logos of the 4 new grantees.

Thanks to this grassroots team, we’re able to invest in trusted leaders who are the driving force behind the foundational change we’re seeing across our target regions.

Before we dive into our new partners, we need to say that sustaining our momentum and expanding our program is only possible when we meet important milestones like the mid-quarter fundraising goal we’re facing this Wednesday.

Can you help us build a progressive network of organizers across the Deep South, Appalachia, and the Plains by pitching in today?

Now, our favorite part! Here’s how our grantees are making an impact with your support:

  1. Based in Mobile, Alabama, Stand Up Mobile is a nonprofit voter education and advocacy organization committed to bringing the power of the Black vote to elections at all levels. Through education, coalition-building, and voter registration, SUM aims to decrease the number of inactive voters and ensure all local voices are heard, especially those who are too often excluded from the political, economic, and social institutions that shape their lives. 🗳️

  2. Based on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast, with an impressive legacy of environmental justice work, The Steps Coalition was formed in 2006 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Composed of 20+ nonprofit organizations and community members, Steps convenes and provides space for the community to define and advocate for its priorities – by facilitating communication, coordination, and collaboration among its members. 🌎

  3. Freedom OK advocates and organizes across the state to create an Oklahoma where all Two Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and full spectrum of people whose sexuality or gender identity exists beyond a heteronormative, binary framework (2SLGBTQ+), inclusive of their gender identity, gender expression, and/or sexuality, have the safety to thrive. 💓

  4. A brand-new organizing effort in southern West Virginia, the Tenant Rights Organizing Project was formed to respond to major private equity firms buying up mobile home communities in Mercer County. As a result, renters have been left with little power to advocate for basic rights and protections. This new initiative will help advocate for tenants and train them with key organizing strategies to bring change to their communities. 🏘️

As you can see, our Groundwork family is making progress on several important issues — from voter engagement to providing 2SLGBTQ+ community support — and it’s all thanks to this team’s donations of $25, $10, and $5 at a time.

So if you can, pitch in today to help us continue growing our progressive network and sparking positive change across the Deep South, Appalachia, and the Plains.

Thank you so much,

— Team Groundwork Project
