Dear John,

This morning the American Medical Association (AMA) House of Delegates turned back efforts to change its position on assisted suicide from one of opposition to one of “neutrality.” Please read the details in the press release below.

In a major effort, the Patients’ Rights Action Fund, Catholic Medical Association and American Academy of Medical Ethics recruited physicians, residents and medical students to testify before the AMA Reference Committee in opposition to the proposed changes to the AMA policy which influenced the Reference Committee to ask the House of Delegates not to change the official AMA position.

We give thanks and congratulations to all who worked to achieve this important victory which preserves the role of physician as healer and protects patients from the impact of lethal drugs.
