Hi John. I hear regularly from Kansans who are concerned about crime and keeping their families safe.

No one should have to fear walking home at night, going to the store, or dropping their kids off at school. It’s important to me to listen to you and bring your voice to Washington. So today, I hope you’ll take my survey to share your public safety concerns with me.

Please click here to take my public safety survey at davids.house.gov/publicsafety. You can also find resources on our web page to help you and your family stay safe.

I’ve made it a priority to help ensure Kansas is always a safe place to live, work, and raise a family. This begins by partnering with local police departments.

My mom is an Army veteran and served in law enforcement for a time herself. I know police officers have difficult jobs. They put their lives on the line to protect us, so Congress must deliver funds law enforcement needs.

Thankfully, despite the noise in Washington, I’ve appreciated working with both Republicans and Democrats to keep Kansans safe.

That includes helping to secure more than $27 million in federal public safety grants to hire more police officers, prevent crime, and get criminals off our streets.

In fact, just last week, I was pleased to announce two new federal grants to support law enforcement in Kansas’ Third District and throughout the state. That includes funding to hire four more police officers in the City of Olathe. Click here to learn more about it.

I’ve secured support for police departments in Overland Park, Gardner, and more. I’ve also secured funds for key safety projects, including to upgrade Olathe’s mobile police command unit with new technology so folks can get immediate onsite assistance.

I’m also working with local law enforcement, public health officials, educators, and others to help address the fentanyl crisis. Fentanyl is devastating local families, so Congress must act.

That's why I’ve helped pass bipartisan laws to crack down on cartels that smuggle fentanyl, hire more border patrol agents, and enhance screening at high-volume points of entry with more modern infrastructure.

It’s far past time to secure our borders and fix our immigration issues once and for all. Congress must actually solve the problem, not use it as an issue to score political points.

That’s why I’m pushing for a comprehensive, efficient, fair, and bipartisan plan to secure our borders, along with a roadmap to citizenship for people who play by the rules and pay their taxes.

I’ve held several roundtables with local officials to learn and coordinate our response to the fentanyl crisis.

These are all important steps. But Congress must also take steps to build a better future, too.

That’s why I’m working with Republicans and Democrats to prevent crime, improve mental health care, and support people suffering from substance abuse.

I also helped pass a new bipartisan law to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. This law helps law enforcement prosecute abusers and assist survivors of domestic violence.

One of my first acts as your representative was to preside over the House floor as my colleagues and I voted to reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. I was glad to later help pass a final bipartisan bill into law.

My focus is on concrete and bipartisan solutions to protect our communities. I understand there’s a lot more work to do, so I hope you’ll take my survey now if you haven’t already to share your thoughts.

Please click here to visit davids.house.gov/publicsafety to take my survey and find resources for your family.

I’m here to serve every person and corner of our community, regardless of party. Whether we agree on every issue or not is beside the point. Everyone deserves a government that works for them – not just for special interests, big corporations, or the extremes of either party.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

My warmest regards,
